Hillsborough County Enforcing Law Effecting all Residents with Wells
Attention all
residents with well water irrigation systems. Hillsborough County
is aggressively enforcing a law that will effect all Symphony Isles
residents that have a well driven irrigation system.
There is a Florida
State law that requires all properties with an alternative source
of pressurized water (in our case wells) to have County certification
that there is no connection between the alternate water source and
the County Water source, and that a special Backflow Prevention
Valve be installed within 2 feet of the water meter.
If you have a
well installed and do not comply with this law (most of our properties
with wells do not comply) you will be served violation papers over
the next few weeks that state you have 48 hours to hire a licensed
contractor to certify that there is no connection and 30 days for
the installation of a Backflow Prevention Valve. If you do not comply
you will be subject to fines and denial of water service.
Many of our residents
have already been served with this violation, with the retainer
to be server in the next few weeks. The average price to engage
a contractor for compliance with this law is between $700 and $1000
dollars.
We have a been
in contact with the County and as a community have been offered
a delay on these violation dates so that we can coordinate efforts
to engage a contractor that can give us a reasonable price for the
volume of work we present as a community and hopefully save all
our effected residents some money. While the Symphony Isles Board
will not actively solicit a contractor for this purpose, we can
tell you that Jeff Wortner has offered his assistance in privately
coordinating this effort to try and save everyone the effort and
money that otherwise would have been required. Additionally, we
think it is in the best interest of all our residents if we promote
awareness of this impending situation and support the residents
efforts to comply with the County in the most efficient and timely
solution for all. To accomplish this we have added this to the agenda
for the next board meeting on Tuesday Aug 14th 7 P.M. A county representative
will also be at attendance to answer all questions.
Please contact
Jeff Wortner at wortner@us.ibm.com if you want to be added to the
interested parties list to be kept abreast of the current situation
and proposed solution.
Again, please
understand that these violations require almost immediate action
so this is an issue that will have to be settled in the next few
weeks to comply with the County mandates. If you have a well, it
is advisable, but not required, that you participate in this group
effort to if you want to realize the savings that will be realized
by the strength of our numbers.
